Defender Series™ Spill Container Now Available

Today Franklin Fueling Systems introduced the next generation in spill containment with the launch of the Defender Series™ spill container. This latest development from Franklin Fueling Systems is the product of combining years of knowledge and experience in forecourts across the globe with the latest innovations in spill containment to provide one all-encompassing and evolvable spill container.

The Defender Series spill container was engineered and designed with the future in mind with several features including multiple monitoring methods as well as the ability to be easily upgraded from a single wall container to a double wall container in the field without having to break concrete. These options allow the station owner to evolve the spill containment as regulations change in their specific area.

Always knowing how your spill containment is performing and getting immediate confirmation on the integrity of the interstitial space is made easy with either mechanical or electronic leak detection options. The I2 (Interstitial Integrity) Monitor mechanically facilitates efficient monthly and annual visual inspections confirming the integrity of the secondary containment space while the time-proven ULS electronic sensor option allows the user to have active leak detection. Upgrading a single wall version of the Defender Series to double wall is easily done by loosening four interior plow ring screws and removing the ring, then unthreading the single wall container and replacing it with a double wall container.

“We know that , depending on the region, spill containment requirements out there are changing as regulations progress and we designed the Defender Series to adapt right alongside those requirements,” said Jay Walsh, Vice President of Business Development for Franklin Fueling Systems. “If your region doesn’t already require spill containment testing, odds are that it will soon. With the Defender Series you can protect your initial investment by choosing a spill container that is able to evolve as regulations change with a simple upgrade process.”

A major emphasis was put into level of protection that the Defender Series provides. Proactively protecting a site from the dangers of fugitive emissions can save station owners both time and money by avoiding remediation due to fuel leakage. The Defender Series provides several key defenses from these costly expenses including a drop tube compression adapter ensuring a vapor tight seal, a compression gasket which provides a vapor tight mechanical seal, a CARB EVR approved EBW drain valve and an EBW cast iron cover with gasket; one of the most trusted and proven cast iron covers in the industry.

Lastly, the variable height adjustment feature allows for approximately three inches of height adjustment during install, making the Defender Series an ideal solution for retrofit applications as it can adapt to varying forecourt conditions.

“We took all of the best things about our EBW brand spill containers, combined them with the best features of our Phil-Tite brand spill containers and used that as our basis to build a truly next-level spill container,” said Walsh. “The Defender Series was developed by bringing everything we know how to do best together into one spill container.”

Orders for the Defender Series will be accepted starting on February 1, 2009.

STPs Now UL Listed for E85 Compatibility

Franklin Fueling Systems is pleased to announce that its submersible turbine pumps (STPs) are now UL listed for use in applications containing ethanol concentrations up to 85 percent, yet another industry-first achievement for the FE Petro brand.

After the rigorous 16-week UL testing procedure in which the FE Petro STP was subjected to demanding exposure testing with aggressive fuel blends, the industry’s leading STP line emerged with positive results to achieve the industry’s first UL approval for STPs to be used in E85 applications.

“There is a certain peace of mind that comes with a third-party approval like the UL listing. Our customers know that our equipment has been put through some very demanding testing in order to achieve that listing. They can be confident when they put our STP in the ground to pump ethanol blends that it will perform to the highest degree,” said Jay Walsh, Vice President of Business Development for Franklin Fueling Systems.

To achieve the UL listing, Franklin Fueling Systems replaced several of the materials that make up the components used in the STP with those that are resistant to corrosion in applications containing ethanol content up to 85 percent. These enhancements include replacing soft or yellow metals with stainless steel as well as replacing the materials used to fabricate gaskets with other fuel resistant materials.

“This UL listing marks a significant achievement for the FE Petro brand as well as the industry itself,” said Walsh. “We feel that this type of future fuel compatibility will only increase across the petroleum equipment industry moving forward. With the EPA showing its support of higher ethanol blends and the current administration’s commitment to strengthening the ethanol fuel infrastructure and vehicle fleet, we feel it is only a matter of time before the demand for products that are UL listed for high concentrations of ethanol blend will begin to significantly increase.”

Franklin Fueling Systems will begin shipping all AG (alcohol gas) compatible STPs with the UL marking and upgrades beginning January 22, 2010. For a complete listing of the UL listed STPs, contact your local Franklin Fueling Systems approved FE Petro distributor.
